Altrincham FC In The Community (AITC) are introducing a new disability sports afternoon at the Community Sports Hall (CSH), on site at the J.Davidson Stadium, Altrincham. Commencing Thursday 23rd February, Table Cricket (1.15-2.00pm) and Pan Disability Football (2.00-3.00pm) will be on offer, free for all participants.
AITC apply for grant funding each year from The National League Trust to help subsidise activities ran in the local community, including: school coaching, senior fitness, yoga, holiday clubs, walking football, under 5’s football, school tournaments and external events.
In October 2016, AITC successfully received a Sportivate grant with the aim of providing disability football. After an 8 week programme, four players were attending on a regular basis.
Community Co-Ordinator, Judy Henson, spoke of the programme and future aspirations: “With the help of Cheshire FA and local community groups, we noticed AITC were progressing in so many varied areas across the community, but the one thing we were not providing was activities for people with disabilities. Since the Sportivate programme, we have successfully set up these new sessions and gained interest with a lot more participants. The aim one day would be to be able to run a pan disability football team, representing AFC.”
