The National League Trust have invited all clubs to partake in a nationwide Under-11’s tournament, with the finals being played at Wembley on 14th May, at the promotion final playoffs. With that in mind, all football clubs were asked to carry out local school tournaments to find a winning team to be able to take to regional stages across the country.

Altrincham FC held a mini tournament on Friday 10th February at Timperley Sports Club. Bollin, Broadheath, St Vincents and Stamford Park were all invited to participate, as each school had won one of our 2016 primary school football events. With 36 players, boys and girls aged between 9-11, representing the four schools, the group stage results were as follows:

  • Stamford Park 1 – 1 Bollin
  • St Vincents 0 – 1 Broadheath
  • Bollin 0 – 1 St Vincents
  • Broadheath 2 – 0 Stamford Park
  • St Vincents 1 – 0 Stamford Park
  • Bollin 0 – 1 Broadheath

Broadheath and St Vincents made it through to the final, with the score remaining 0 – 0 after an incredible 14 minute match and additional 5 minutes extra time. Taking it into penalties, St Vincents came out on top, with an impressive 3-2 win over Broadheath.

AFC Community Co-Ordinator, Judy Henson, said of the day: “All the teams were outstanding throughout the day, but St Vincents and Broadheath were clear worthy finalists after the displays they showed in the group stages. We’re grateful to The National League Trust for the continued support they show us (AFC Community Sports) each year, by the grant funding we receive which allows us to carry out coaching work in schools and run events like these. We are excited to find out from the NLT about the upcoming regional stages, however, we will be working with the St Vincents squad to get them prepared in the meantime.”

AFC Community Sports have already scheduled in their 2017 Summer schools tournament for Tuesday 2nd May. Similar to the first event of its kind in 2016, the tournament will be held on the J.Davidson stadium pitch at Moss Lane, for school years 3&4. Dates for the Winter year 5&6 tournament will be released after the Summer holidays.
