Altrincham FC is both excited and proud to announce that it will be continuing into its 2nd year as a Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Centre and will be offering local young people the opportunity to complete both the bronze and silver awards via a structured and supportive programme.

As you will be well aware completing the D of E award will provide young people with an edge in an ever increasingly competitive world. It says something about the character and wider skills of a young person that both further and higher education institutes, as a well future employers, value highly.

There will be 56 places available for young people to complete either the bronze or silver (FULL AS OF DEC 2016) levels of the award. Interested participants need to consider that they will be required to commit and participate in three different activities over three different sections (skill/physical/voluntary) for one hour per week over a three to twelve month period, attend expedition training sessions one hour per week or training days dependant on the level of award (January to April) and successfully complete two 2-Day (Bronze) / 3-Day (Silver) walking expeditions (May to July). There will be opportunities for participants to complete some or all of their activity sections at the club. The programme and training will be run centrally from the community sports hall by qualified staff and volunteers.

The cost of our bronze package is £225 and silver package is £285, which we believe is a competitive and fair rate, including enrolment, administration, ongoing monitoring/support, expedition training and both expedition practice/qualifying weekends (staffing/campsite), group kit (tents, camping stoves + fuel, emergency shelter, roll mats) and a personalised D of E centre t-shirt.

Participants will be required to have their own personal expedition kit and food, with the essentials being strong walking boots, waterproofs and a large rucksack. Transport is not included for any part of programme so please bare this in mind. Expeditions will either take place in Cheshire or the Peak District.

Thanks for all your organising and the time the whole family has given to this – it all seemed incredibly well organised!! Thanks for making it such an enjoyable and positive experience for Henry (despite the rain!) Please send my thanks to the volunteer parents too.

We want to thank you for organising the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, and particularly the expedition. Alex has loved being involved and meeting new people, and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the camping trip, which sounded fantastic. We’ve both been hugely impressed with your organisation, patient communication with parents and your ability to manage a group of teenagers! Many, many thanks for giving up your time to do this. It’s much appreciated.

I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work getting the group through this and the way you have kept the parents informed of what is happening. The pictures are great.
